ONCE again Powick were frustrated by a Hallow side that have become a jinx this season in the Worcester Saturday League premier division.
POWICK 3, HALLOW WMC 3
In terrible conditions, Powick found themselves two goals down inside the first ten minutes, the first coming from a wicked deflection and the second following poor defending.
The second goal woke Powick up and they began to get into their stride. Following a period of sustained pressure, two well-worked moves led to Stu Harvey restoring parity before half-time.
Shortly after the break, Powick took the lead when Harvey completed his hat-trick.
Drinkwater, Henderson, Abba and Prosser all had chances to increase the lead but as Powick's dominance was not turned into more goals, Hallow began to feel this could be their day.
As chances were spurned, Hallow looked dangerous from set-pieces and despite the warning signs, poor defending at a corner with ten minutes left resulted in the equalising goal.
Despite pressing, Powick could not find the decisive goal and were forced to settle for a frustrating draw.
The high quality of football played was let down by a poor start and end to the match and unless Powick can learn from this, their ambitions of securing the top spot may not be realised.
BEDWARDINE 3, POWICK 5
AN unbelievable game between the top two sides in the Worcester Sunday League division one saw Powick bring an end to Bedwardine's long undefeated run.
Manager Mike Burton inspired Powick to arguably their best performance of the season and the spirit of the team was a tribute the club.
Powick took the lead in the 10th minute when Stu Harvey raced clear of the defence and calmy finished. A moment of quality from Bedwardine saw a 30-yard free-kick blasted into the top corner to level the scores.
Undeterred, Powick continued to battle and the midfield work-rate of Gary and Lee Henderson, Skilton, Price and Pearson meant that Powick remained in a strong position. Harvey completed his hat-trick with two strikes in the last ten minutes of the half, and managed to hit the post with the last kick of the half.
A passionate rallying call from manager Burton saw Powick come out for the second-half in determined fashion.
A wonderful Henderson free-kick saw Harvey rise and plant a header in the top corner to put Powick further ahead.
Credit must be given to Bedwardine, who never gave up and despite the stubborn defending of Collard, Hart and Knight, a penalty and a disastrous back-pass meant that Bedwardine were right back in the game.
The crucial goal came with 15 minutes remaining when a cross from Drinkwater was met on the volley from 25 yards by Harvey, whose strike crashed into the top corner of the net and was met by applause from the Bedwardine supporters and management.
Despite a couple of anxious moments, Powick held on for a thoroughly deserved victory.
