ANCHOR Falcons' recent mini-revival was brought to a shuddering halt on Sunday as they were trounced by table-topping Ronkswood Sports in Worcester.
RONKSWOOD SPORTS 6, ANCHOR FALCONS 0
The first half started well for Anchor, who appeared confident if a little rusty after the festive break. They were certainly keen to get the ball down and play some neat football. Creating chances was difficult though, with Ronkswood's defence commanding everything that came their way.
Anchor's John Goode, whose midfield dominance earned him the man-of-the-match award, strived to provide a backbone both in defence and attack, with his midfield partner Mark Berry playing an effective holding role.
However, Anchor's defence, which included John Pearson for his first start, and Andy Fletcher, who had been ill in the lead up to the game, suddenly appeared to fall apart. Within 21 minutes Anchor conceded four goals to add to an earlier strike.
In between the goals, the visitors had put together some neat moves, with Rich Lambert showing up particularly well on the right wing and Paul Park causing problems with his direct running.
After the break Anchor showed a real pride in their play. Dyl Wilkins was in fine defensive form, while Park, Berry and Lambert all attempted shots with no success. Anchor continued to try and play the game on the floor and carved open the home defence several more times only to see the goalkeeper thwart their consolation attempts.
At the other end, Will Hale made three excellent saves to deny Ronkswood but was helpless to keep out the sixth goal late on.
Perhaps a slightly harsh scoreline, but plenty to encourage the management as they look towards this Sunday's league encounter at Perowne Park Rangers.
