The Rev. PhilipTurner, who had lived at St Francis, next to St James's School, died last weekend at the age of 80.
A man of many parts, he had served in the navy before attending Worcester College, Oxford. After ordination into the church, he served in a number of charges as a parish priest. He was also involved in religious broadcasting with the BBC and wrote several childrens' books and plays.
After retiring to West Malvern with his wife Margaret, he often took services at St James's Church. For a number of years Philip conscientiously looked after the equipment at the parish council playground off Old Hollow - a job for which he received an annual honorarium of one guinea (£1.05), of which he was very proud!
His funeral is on Monday (January 16) at St Matthias' Church, Malvern Link, at 12.30pm.
