MEMBERS of Redditch Urban District Council's planning committee were told by a representative from a Wolverhampton firm of architects at a meeting on Tuesday that the cost of the proposed crematorium in the Birmingham Road cemetery would be more than £50,000.
This included £39,000 for the building, £10,000 for the paths and lawns and £9,000 for the crematorium equipment.
A pleasing feature of the crematorium chapel was the large window behind the catafalque, which provided a view across the Worcestershire countryside. The chapel would seat 63 people.
Councillor W F B Cardy, chairman of the committee said the next step was to get Government permission.
Mr W Irving Watkins, the clerk, said he had written to the MP, who had taken it to the appropriate authorities.
