Bromsgrove Colts 14 Crusaders 10
Bromsgrove Colts started the New Year in fine style by retaining the Brotherton Cup in the annual challenge match against the Bromsgrove veterans.
A second half try by Joe Baker saw off hard working Crusaders at Finstall Park.
The Colts, who won this fixture comfortably last year, came from a try down to take the lead when James Upton set up Dan Spalding to touch down. Gareth Thomas converted the try.
Bromsgrove's veterans' side hit back with a try and then edged 10-7 ahead with a second try. Jim Kehoe was unlucky to watch his conversion kick hit a bar and bounce away.
The Colts took control of the game and Spalding came close to putting them ahead.
Strong tackling by Bert Casamassa, Stuart Young and Sam Lofthouse kept the Crusaders at bay. Young completed a strong display when he scored under the posts. Thomas then converted to make the score 14-10.
