Barnt Green Spartak Reserves 2 Droitwich Spa 6
DROITWICH overcame a strong Barnt Green side to make it into the semi-finals of the Worcestershire Nursing Cup on Saturday.
Spa, who play in the Midlands Combination Division Two, were given a fright by their opponents from a division below, before a second half goal glut ensured the team's progression in the cup.
Neither side had played a game for three weeks and Spartak came out of the blocks quicker.
Nathan Singh scored to put Spartak ahead, but Stuart James' brace put Droitwich 2-1 up by half time.
Barnt Green were unperturbed and forced goalkeeper Nick West into a series of good saves to keep them at bay.
However, goals for Aaron Par, Chris Everett and Matthew Jenkins made sure that Droitwich took a healthy lead.
Marvin Gorman bagged a goal for Barnt Green, but Neil McCullough sealed a scoreline that did not do spirited Spartak any credit for an entertaining match.
Droitwich manager Tom Goss said: "We didn't defend very well and that needs to be looked at. But on the other hand our attacking was excellent.
"It could have been 4-4 at one stage and credit goes to our goalkeeper Nick West."
Droitwich turn their attention to escaping relegation, when the team goes to mid-table Enville Athletic on Saturday, January 14 (2pm start).
Goss said: "We need to keep picking up the points as we are still in the danger area.
"Teams around us have started picking up points so we can't afford to drop any more at all."
