Alcester 5
Trinity Guild 9
ALCESTER could not have had a worse start to the new year than this defeat against the league's basement boys.
And it now means the King's Coughton side are only off the foot of the table on points difference.
Alcester dominated territory and possession but failed to finish their opponents off.
The opening half was played mostly in the visitors' half but Alcester's progress was consistently interrupted as they failed to come to terms with the referee's interpretation of the rules.
The home side led 5-0 at the break thanks to a try from scrum-half Scott Carmichael.
But chances to extend the lead in the second half were not taken as passes went astray.
Trinity opened their account with a penalty but Alcester then spent 10 minutes camped on the visitors' line.
But with chances not being converted, Trinity grew in confidence and they kicked two more penalties in the final ten minutes to take the honours.
Alcester take a break from league action on Saturday when they host University of Birmingham Medical Students for their annual visit.
