OUR December meeting was a double celebration of Christmas and our 40th birthday.
President Jenny Kerridge read from the minutes of the first meeting, and a photograph of founder members Nancy Burns, Margaret Elliott, Mavis Perks, Helen Prew and Nancy Wright was taken beside a birthday cake made by Susan Smallman and beautifully decorated by Clegg Lyster. Our scrap books and many photographs were also on display.
We celebrated Christmas by singing a carol and we enjoyed a talk by Frank Townsend called Compliments of the Season. We heard the history of the Christmas card and many interesting facts about the origins of our Christmas customs, and enjoyed slides showing early Christmas cards from Victorian times. Ruth Dunkley thanked him warmly on our behalf. For refreshments we enjoyed mince pies and birthday cake.
