Old Silhillians 15pts,
Pershore 9
NOT for the first time this season, Pershore had to endure a sixth loss by only one score but, in truth, the game was there to be won.
The Piddle Park men have been winning plenty of possession in recent matches but have failed to turn it into points.
With the game played in a steady drizzle all afternoon, handling became harder as the match progressed, but the visitors started the sharper.
From a scrum on halfway, the ball was passed to James Martin who created a terrific outside break but, with a two-man overlap, he decided to go himself and Sills cleared their lines after the Pershore man was tackled.
Smart inter-play between Andy Jenkinson and Adrian Hanson then released Martin Hope. With support on his inside and outside and a score possible, he was hauled down and the ball was knocked on and another scoring chance went begging.
Pershore pressure was rewarded when Martin kicked a penalty but the home side stormed back and put the visitors under severe pressure but their defence was excellent.
However, out of nowhere, the Sills hooker drove through the middle of a ruck and sprinted to the try line.
Silhillians started the second half in command with their fly-half kicking them into strong positions and they were duly rewarded with a converted try.
Again Pershore came back and two Martin penalties reduced the deficit to three points.
The visitors then threw everything forward but the hosts held firm and, with time running out, Sills sealed the points when their fly-half kicked a monstrous penalty from halfway.
