MALVERN Rugby Club's recent upturn in form continued with a 24-7 victory in their bottom-of-the-table clash with Old Laurentians.
In a match that both sides desperately needed to win, Malvern put their opponents under sustained pressure from the word go.
And they made that pressure count when lock forward Aidan Ruddock burst through for the opening try of the match. Full-back Steve Ott added the conversion.
But Laurentians pulled themselves back into the game and captain Ian Wallis took advantage of some missed tackles to register their only try of the match. His brother Dave then stood up to notch the conversion.
Ott then added a penalty to give the home side a three-point lead at half-time.
Malvern really exerted their authority at the start of the second-half and about 80 per cent of the play took place in the their opponents' half.
They were rewarded with a pair of tries that both came as a result of putting pressure on the Laurentians scrum in the last 10 metres of the field.
First, Phil Rawle pounced on a mistake and touched down for the try.
That was followed by an almost identical try by prop Shaun Lancett.
Ott was on target for both the conversions to give Malvern a fairly comfortable win.
The Spring Lane club have strengthened their back division with the signing of Ott's brother, Dan.
The centre has joined Malvern from Midlands One side Bromsgrove.
