SIR - Although I rode a bicycle in my teens and early 20s (1950-1965), I wouldn't today, at 68, feel safe in the present volume of traffic. Matthew Spring (Thursday, December 22) says he saves a lot of money by cycling.
He also, far more importantly, helps reduce the air pollution that will be devastating for our collective grandchildren. I personally either walk or use a city bus nowadays - or stay at home.
