S OME horse-mad youngsters enjoyed their annual festive party at Gracelands indoor arena in Droitwich. Members of the Wyre Forest branch of the Pony Club spent hours washing and grooming their ponies before donning their special festive headgear for the popular 'decorated hat' competition.
Father Christmas put in an appearance at lunchtime before the senior members of the club enjoyed an afternoon of jumping competitions.
Karen Waugh, assistant district commissioner for the Wyre Forest branch, said there were some incredible creations.
"I just don't know how they get their fabulous ideas," said Mrs Waugh. "There was a hat decorated with a plate of Christmas fayre, complete with a glass of wine, and another of Father Christmas coming down the chimney. As usual, we must thank everyone who helped to make the day such a great success, especially Chris Napier who owns Gracelands and presented the prizes."
It was a family affair for the under-10 decorated hat competition winners, with sisters Lilly and Georgia Dean first and second. Eliza Taylor was third and cousins Annabelle and Victoria Twinberrow fourth and fifth. Annabelle's brother Harry was in sixth place.
In the over-10s, Abigail Oakes came first, Holly Prescott was second, Amy miller was third and Lilly Fitch fourth.
Mrs Waugh thanked four older members of the branch who organised the senior show jumping that took place in the afternoon. They are Laura Teague, Scott Dew, Christine Waugh and Lauren Webster.
