A PUB is hoping its second annual sausage eating competition raises more money for charity than the inaugural one held a year ago.
In January 2005, regulars of the Red Hart, Kington, near Inkberrow, raised £1,200 for the victims of the Asian tsunami in a competition to scoff 10 feet of pork in the quickest time possible.
Pub manager Darren Hales said: "We had a huge amount of interest in last year's event. From then on we decided to make it an annual event. We had 10 teams last year. This year we are hoping for 15."
Teams must be made up of five people, with each paying an entry fee of £5. Each team member must eat two feet of sausages before the next person begins eating.
Mr Hales said the gauntlet has been thrown down as last year's winning team, who managed to devour 10 feet of sausages in just 16 minutes, have entered again.
He said: "There's no real rules involved, just one person from each team eating at a time and there is no drinking while eating.
"It is basically a fun event."
The competition is due to be held on Wednesday, January 18, from 7.30pm. This year the money raised will go to Acorns. Anyone interested in entering a team should contact the pub on 01386 792559.
