ANYONE who's overindulged during the festive period can take the first step towards working it off and learning about a healthy lifestyle at the first of two open days for a new community gym.
The Worcester YMCA Community Gym, based at the centre off Henwick Road, St John's, boasts both cardiovascular equipment, such as rowing machines, and resistance equipment.
Users of the gym will also be able to get advice on healthy living and attend exercise classes as well as food and nutrition courses.
Mel Smith, the YMCA's community development officer, said: "It's a friendly environment. It's somewhere people who are new to exercise will feel comfortable.
"It's ideal for people who wouldn't want to go to a big, professional gym. It's small and friendly."
In October 2005, the Worcester News reported that the YMCA had received a substantial anonymous donation of several thousand pounds to fund a project, which was put towards setting up the gym.
The open day will take place from 9am to 1pm tomorrow and the second on Saturday, January 14, at the same time.
Prof David Green, vice-chancellor of the University of Worcester, will officially open the gym on Wednesday, February 8.
The university has supported the project by offering advice about how to set up the gym and the type of equipment it should house.
