THE Countryside Agency is encouraging more people in Worcestershire to use the open spaces in and around their local area to enjoy
a happier and healthier way of life.
The agency estimates seven out of 10 people are not physically active enough and as a result say both our physical and mental health is suffering.
Last year the mapping of new open access land, healthy walking groups, and better management of both national trails and areas of outstanding natural beauty increased opportunities for getting out and about after Christmas.
In Worcestershire alone there are more than 3,000 miles of public rights of way as well as new open access land, successful healthy walking groups, the famous Malvern Hills area of outstanding natural beauty and a range of Doorstep Greens and green space initiatives in and around towns. James Marshall, spokesman for the Countryside Agency, said: "We know already that just 20 to 30 minutes of exercise taken five times a week can change our health and well-being immensely.
"So, in this new year we hope everyone in Worcestershire will take a fresh look at their lifestyle and the new open spaces they have locally.
"These include new access land in the Malvern Hills and parts of the Wyre Forest, Walking The Way To Health groups in Malvern and Kidderminster, and the Malvern Hills area of outstanding natural beauty, which covers 105 sq kms."
