GRAHAM Turner believes Jon Brady failed to deliver the goods during his six-month stint at Edgar Street.
Boss Turner takes his Hereford United side to struggling Scarborough tomorrow without Australian Brady, who joined Conference rivals Cambridge United yesterday after failing to nail down a first-team place.
The 30-year-old winger joined from Stevenage in the summer and started 21 games for the club, but only managed one goal for the Bulls, ironically against his new club's city rivals Cambridge City in the FA Cup.
A lack of goals was a factor behind Turner's decision to part with the midfielder, while Brady's 200-mile round trip to training from his Northampton home was proving a major headache for the player.
In recent weeks, Brady had lost his starting place to up-and-coming youngster Andy Williams.
"I don't think he's done quite as well as he expected," said Turner. "Jon was not in the side at the current time and I wanted to bring in a few fresh faces, so I needed the room for one or two players to come in.
"Jon came just before the start of the season, I expected more and I think some of it was down to the sheer distance that he was travelling. He lives in Northampton and that did not help the cause.
"I would have thought he would have scored the odd goal in the 20 matches that he played. He did not score a Conference goal, but I don't want to knock Jon for that. I'm sure he will do well at Cambridge."
Williams should keep his place at the McCain Stadium tomorrow, but Turner is facing an injury dilemma. Guy Ipoua, controversially sent-off at Exeter City on December 30, is available for selection after the FA overturned a two-game ban, but is doubtful with a hamstring problem.
Midfielders Stacy Coldicott (back) and Andy Ferrell (knee) are still ruled out, along with long-serving defender Tony James (groin).
Turner is confident of snatching three points against the Seadogs --- who have picked up just one point from their last five league matches -- and he believes it will be the ideal tonic after a below-average festive period.
He added: "The win at Exeter was outstanding and the home result against Forest Green was disappointing. But a lot of people thought because Forest Green are in the bottom three, we should have murdered them. They will finish in the top half of the table.
"Scarborough are a decent side and they got a good draw against York last week. But this is the sort of game that we should be taking three points from."
