WORKMEN will soon fix riverside railings that were knocked down by yobs.
The barrier at South Quay, Worcester, was vandalised before Christmas.
Passers-by raised fears that children could easily fall into the River Severn.
A spokesman for the Royal Society For The Prevention Of Accidents warned people to be extra careful before full repairs are made.
He said: "The River Severn has the highest number of deaths after the Thames.
"The most vulnerable are the elderly, teenagers and toddlers. Parents should keep a tighter rein on young children while those sorts of dangers are about."
Graham Vass, senior engineer for Worcestershire County Council's development services, said the railings would soon be repaired.
He said: "It's being organised by the property section and development services. We have put in an order for the new railings but for now a safety barrier is in place."
The area is a popular place to feed swans and during the summer months it becomes a busy beauty spot where children play in the fountain and tourists soak up the sun.
