A DISC jockey didn't have such a happy new year when his attempt at breaking a world record flopped due to lack of support.
Stephen Smith, of Wichenford, near Worcester, wanted to spin records to break records when he attempted to get his name into the Guinness Book of Records for DJ-ing in a public place for five days.
The 23-year-old builder hoped to play tunes constantly from Tuesday, December 27, up to the chimes of Big Ben on New Year's Eve, but only a handful of well-wishers turned up on the first night.
Mr Smith, who held the challenge at the New Inn, Clifton upon Teme, needed at least one person to dance throughout his attempt, so after eight hours he had to call it a day and pack up his decks.
He said: "I am absolutely gutted and cannot believe that no-one turned up after three-months of hard work organising the event.
"I really needed the support but it just didn't happen and I am so disappointed."
But the part time DJ said he would not be beaten and will make another attempt to get into the record books in
the summer.
He said: "In the words of Chumbawamba - I get knocked down but I get up again. We are going to set up a committee this time to ensure it is a great success."
Mr Smith can take some consolation from the fact that managed to raise £200 for the County Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK.
