AN in-depth survey is being carried out to help Worc-estershire County Council consider changes to a road junction in Bewdley.
Currently, traffic turning off the Habberley Road on to the Kidderminster Road in Catchems End is only allowed to turn left, which means visitors to Bewdley's town centre have to double back on themselves.
Worcestershire county councillor for Wribbenhall and Bewdley town councillor, Gordon Yarranton, who is campaigning for the junction to be changed, said the survey, being carried out on behalf of the county council, will examine traffic volume and speeds, pedestrian movement and underground services.
He added: "I am trying to get a scheme in there that is going to be suitable for the residents.
"I am sure we can come up with something that is better than what is there now."
Mr Yarranton, who believes a mini-island could be an option, said the county council had money available, which could be used to fund the scheme.
He added: "We have to use the money by March, 2007 or it has to be returned.
"We have got to tackle the problem at some point so why not do it now? Why miss the opportunity?"
In the summer, Mr Yarranton surveyed 2,000 homes in the area and he said 81 per cent of those residents wanted the junction to be changed.
