A LANDSCAPE gardener has been jailed for two years and three months after an attack outside a Kidderminster pub which left a man seriously injured.
Worcester Crown Court heard that Richard Smith punched Christopher McAdam so hard that his jaw and eye socket were broken.
Smith, 23, of Farm Road, Stourport, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm in the incident outside the Seven Stars in December, 2004. He also admitted taking part in an affray in the Unity pub in Kiddermin-ster and damaging three cars with a hammer in Park Street, Kidderminster.
Mr Glyn Samuel, prosecuting, said Smith had previous convictions for violence and had spent 189 days in prison on remand.
Mr Adam Western, defending, said this was the equivalent of a 13-month sentence and submitted that a community sentence would be appropriate.
Smith had gained food hygiene and industrial cleaning certificates while in prison.
Judge Andrew Geddes said the offences were so serious, however, that they could only be met with custody.
