LOCAL councillors have called in a firm of consultants to help them decide how best to use the open spaces of Wychavon.
And now members of the public throughout the district are being asked to have their say.
Wychavon District Council has appointed specialist sport and leisure consultants PMP to carry out the study so any improvements can be made.
The study will investigate whether the district's open space meets the needs of residents now and in the future, in terms of quality, quantity and accessibility.
It will concentrate on open space that is well used and valued by residents and cover venues from parks and gardens and woodlands to indoor and outdoor sports facilities, children's plan areas and allotments.
The council's executive board member for planning policy and rural affairs, Cllr Audrey Steel said: "We are carrying out a public consultation exercise to find out from the people of Wychavon exactly what they want from the open space in their district.
"Parks and open spaces provide great amenity, leisure and health opportunities for people.
"This work shows our commitment to ensuring Wychavon's open spaces, sports and recreation facilities, meet the needs of all in the district.
"It will help us plan an appropriate balance between providing new facilities and enhancing existing provision."
A series of neighbourhood drop-in sessions will be held around the district next month and details will be advertised. Local people will be encouraged to call in and air their views.
A random sample of questionnaires will be sent out to households in the district.
