DROITWICH darts ace Dave Honey believes he can build on the 'amazing' experience of playing in front of the TV cameras at the recent Lad-brokes.com World Championship.

He is confident he will gets his hands on a major world ranking title in the near future.

Honey, who was eliminated in the first round at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet by Adrian Lewis, has responded in fine style by beating a host of top players to win two large regional tournaments in the space of a week.

After being knocked out of the World Championships, the Droitwich taxi firm boss decided to stay on at the tournament and soak up the atmosphere instead of returning to the oche for more practice.

That proved to be a good decision as Honey bounced back to top form and won the Coventry Open singles on December 28 before going on to claim the Cherry Tree Open title two days later.

In the Coventry final, Honey overcame Nick Gedney, who has previously represented England and appeared in the Embassy World Championship.

He then beat Terry Brown, a recent winner of the British Classic, to the Cherry Tree Open title in Bishopsgate, near Coventry.

Honey said: "A lot of good players took part in both of the tournaments I won so I think they were sick of the sight of me by the end of the week!

"Even though I lost in the first round at Purfleet it was an absolutely amazing experience. It is now clear to see how much it boosted my confidence.

"I missed a lot of doubles there, but I certainly didn't miss them in my last two tournaments.

"Playing in front of the cameras is a bit strange to start with, but you soon get used to it.

"I'm confident I have got the ability to go on from here and win a major ranking tournament in the future."

Honey is now planning to jet off to Gibraltar to take part in qualifying for the Stan James Players' Champion-ship, which takes place on January 21.
