A NEW face has been welcomed at Kidderminster-based Kemp Hospice to help provide spiritual support to patients and their families.

Rev Dr Sue Foster has joined the cross-denominational chaplaincy team and was commissioned as a chaplain at St Mary's Church, Kidderminster, by the Rt Rev David Walker, Bishop of Dudley, in December.

The qualified GP, who is also trained in acupuncture, practised for many years locally before leaving general practice in 2003 to concentrate solely on her ministry.

During her training, Dr Foster, who lives in Tenbury Wells with her husband and three children, began a term's placement at the hospice and she enjoyed it so much that when she was invited to become part of the chaplaincy team, she jumped at the chance.

She said: "It was impossible for me to stay away too long - the work at Kemp is too enjoyable. I am delighted to be commissioned as part of the chaplaincy team.

"The other chaplains are fantastic people of great inspiration and dedication and gifted in many ways. I know that I will learn so much and I am very blessed to work with such wonderful people, patients and staff."

The hospice is an independent charity that provides respite care for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and practical and emotional support to their families.
