A DISABLED Hollywood man has controversially spoken in favour of proposals to downgrade the Alexandra Hospital.
Paul Chambers claims his experiences at the Alex have been so bad that he thinks health chiefs should close the hospital altogether.
"I am totally against saving the Alexandra Hospital," he said.
The 41-year-old, who suffers from severe epilepsy, has been in and out of the Alex for the last five years, since moving to the area.
"All the experiences I have had at the Alexandra Hospital have been bad," claims the Heath Road resident.
"The staff are not interested in the actual person or their problems."
Mr Chambers claims he has been repeatedly misdiagnosed and given the wrong type and amounts of medication.
"If you want to be given the wrong medication, ignored by staff and given cold food, then the Alex is the place to go. I think they should close that doghouse!"
Mr Chambers says he now refuses to go to the hospital and insists on being taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham. He has written to Government Minister for Health Patricia Hewitt to complain but says the matter has been passed on to the Healthcare Commission.
"I feel like she is not interested either and has just passed the buck," added Mr Chambers.
