SIR - it is quite unacceptable that Worcester City Council is threatening members of the public with £1,000 fines over recycling.
Although widely publicised, this scheme, designed to enable the council to meet targets and avoid fines, could be seen as confusing to the elderly and less fortunate. Even with different coloured bins, the instructions could have been much clearer.
This scheme, without sufficient on-the-ground consultation was forced upon those who cannot store bins, and particularly the elderly who live in multi-occupied accommodation who in
all weather conditions now have to go further outside to communal bin storage points.
Yes, we all have to recycle - but there should be more consideration and not the threats of fines.
BRIAN HUNT,
Worcester.
