A GROUP determined to protect the heritage of Droitwich Spa Lido is calling on residents to once again have their say on future proposals while there is still a chance.
The call, from the Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido and Its Park, comes before the latest plans for the future of the site go through the due planning process.
Planning notices have already been posted around the lido site and now the community group is calling on townsfolk to use the opportunity to formally let Wychavon District Council know how they feel about the plans.
When asked what its main concerns for the site were, Ian Wild, spokesman for the Friends group, listed the destruction of the aerator fountain, the modifications to the existing pool structure and the conversion of the upper floor of the main pavilion as the main issues to consider at this stage of the planning process.
The group is now encouraging everyone who feels strongly about the future of the lido and the park to send their views to the council before it is too late.
"All comments must reach Wychavon District Council no later than January 26, 2006, so time is short," Mr Wild added.
"We will be making our representations in the usual way and, knowing how strongly people are feeling about this tremendously important heritage site, we would encourage everyone to do the same. For us the protection of the remaining original structures and the Spa's 20th century heritage that this site represents is of paramount importance.
"The lido has the potential to be the focus of a tremendous amount of civic pride, and we must all play our part."
Comments about future plans for the lido should be sent to the head of planning, Civic Centre, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Pershore, Worcestershire, WR10 1PT, quoting W/05/02233/DW l before January 26, 2006.
