FORMER Bromsgrove police sergeant, Detective Superintendent TN Williams, was awarded the MBE in the New Years Honours List for his service as head of Worcestershire Constabulary's Criminal Investigation Department. He received 30 commendations from the Courts and the Chief Constable, including seven special ones for work in connection with the arrest of criminals.
BROMSGROVE Cricket Club held its annual dance at the Golden Cross Hotel. Around 160 people danced to the music provided by Dick Rea and his Night Hawks. A number of spot prizes were won and novelty dances were also held.
ONE of Bromsgrove's early motorcyclists, Mr Arnold E Turner, died at his home in Rubery, at the age of 62. He had worked at the Austin Factory since 1910 and served in the Royal Navy during the war, before becoming a charge-hand machine tool fitter.
A PANTOMIME party for local children was organised by the Cofton Hacket Conservative Association. Special coaches took 112 children to Birmingham to see a production of Cinderella.
AFTER having most of the play, Bromsgrove Rugby Club had to be content with a 6-6 draw against Old Carolians. An unconverted first half try from Mahler was not enough to secure a win for Bromsgrove.
