THERE were few surprises in thesoccersite.co.uk Malvern Football League's games on Sunday but there were some high scores and a few outstanding individual performances.
Top scorer was Dave Perera, whose four goals for Belmont Keys helped them to a 7-1 win over Morgan Aero 8. Morgan were forced to field a weakened side but restricted Keys to a 2-1 lead at the interval. During the second period, however, the home side were rampant and a missed penalty only added to Morgan's woes. Simon Rusling scored for Morgan and Perera's efforts for Keys were supported by Dave Jones, Matt Doveton and Rob Jones.
Wayne Cadmore of Ganglands also had his shooting boots with him and rattled in a hat-trick as his side beat Fromes Hill 5-3 away. Ganglands started at a frightening pace and were four goals ahead at half-time. However, they sat back in the second-half and allowed Fromes Hill to get back in the game and reduce the arrears to one goal with scores from James Sweetman, James Lumb and Stewart Smart. A fifth goal from Ganglands in the final minutes sealed the victory. As well as Cadmore's goals, Gordon Mansell was also on target for Ganglands.
There was yet another hat-trick in the match between Cross Keys and Fromes Hill Reserves. This was a dour game with Keys enjoying the majority of the possession but only 2-0 up at the interval.
Fromes Hill continued to defend stoutly in the second-half, bur eventually Keys broke through and were able to run out 5-0 winners at the end. Anthony Smith was the three-goal hero and Ollie Endacott and Mike Cole added the other two.
Oak Academy gained a welcome win over Keys Victoria. Inspired by outstanding performances from Tom Gardiner and Josh Nolan, they led 3-1 at half-time and went on to win 5-1. Scorers included Josh Nolan (two), Tom Gardiner and Dan Powell with Ed Draper finding the net for Keys.
Talbot Head disappointed their followers, losing at home to the high-flying Bell Inn 98 outfit. Talbot played a lot of good football but lacked penetration, although the first half was even. Dan Herbert gave the Bell the lead but Tom Hofton levelled for the home side. Bell continued with their more direct approach after half-time and snatched both points when Dan Herbert scored his second.
Ledbury Rangers entertained Keyz 04 in a game which was marred by a serious injury to Keyz' Nick Lancett in the final seconds of the match. After an innocuous tackle, Lancett fell to the ground and was eventually taken to hospital with suspected cruciate ligament damage.
Before that there had been a goalless first-half followed by an opening goal from Andrew Lancett to put Keyz ahead. Two minutes later Nick Evans equalised and then Rangers 'keeper Chris Johnson saved a penalty. However, Keyz 04 were not to be denied and Tom Holland scored the winner to send them home with a 2-0 victory.
Local sides Dynamo Ledbury and Oak All Stars made further progress in the Herefordshire FA Cup. All Stars visited Orcop and after only scoring once in the first-half, scored five in the second to finish 6-0 winners. The game saw a rare appearance from James Seager, who also got on the scoresheet with the sixth goal. Other scorers were Jamie James and Jamie Gladwyn (two each) and Anthony Bradford.
Dynamo were made to work harder by a spirited Oak Misfits. Misfits took the lead early on but were pegged back when Nathan Dixon equalised. By half-time Misfits had regained the lead and were gaining inspiration from their man-of-the-match Grant Hathaway. In the second-half Dynamo began to assert themselves and equalised with an Adam Thomas penalty before Nathan Dixon put them ahead for the first time with a scorching header. When Martin Punt made it 4-2 to Dynamo it was almost over although Misfits did pull one back before the final whistle. On target for Misfits were Zeki Koral (two including a penalty) and Asa Smith.
The next League meeting is on Monday (December 12) at the Civil Service Club starting at 7.30pm. The management committee will be entertaining club delegates to some Christmas refreshment.
