ONE of the best-known Malvern rock bands of the 1970s got back together for a one-off gig.
Reunited for the first time since 1974, the Pewke Band played to a packed house at the Lamb Inn, West Malvern, last Friday (December 2).
The band, Paul White (guitar), Alan Hoida (bass) and Dion Cochrane (drums/ washboard), delighted the crowd with versions of classic rock numbers by Dylan, Hendrix, Lennon and others.
They were joined by Brett Taylor-Holmes on drums, Paul's daughter Emma on vocals, Dion's daughter Ellen on rhythm guitar and Alfie Stokes on bass and acoustic guitar.
"Colin, the landlord at the Lamb, used to come and see us. He knows Dion, and he suggested it," said Paul, now the editor of music technology magazine Sound On Sound.
"Alan's retired from the BBC, where he was an award-winning film editor, so he went out and bought a new bass, amp and acoustic guitar and started playing again.
"It was great. All the old hippies came out of the woodwork. I saw people who I hadn't seen since we last played together in 1974.
"People came from miles away. Phil Webb, who used to introduce us at the Foley, came all the way from St Austell."
The band are now hoping to play another gig next year. Anyone who wants to be kept informed should send an e-mail to paulwhite@paulwhite.org.uk.
