VANDALS in Bidford have damaged the village's Christmas lights - just days after they were switched on.
Members of the village's Christmas Lights Committee said they were very disappointed because some of the lights had been paid for out of members' own pockets.
The Christmas lights, featuring illuminated stars fixed to walls along the High Street, were switched on at a ceremony on Thursday night.
But when the chairman of the lights committee Steve Holloway and fellow member Peter Batacanin walked around the village on Tuesday they found several of the light displays had been vandalised and others destroyed.
Mr Holloway said: "The Christmas Lights Committee have worked hard throughout the year in fundraising to put on these lights and this year has been exceeding difficult due to new regulations.
"Some of the expense has been funded out of committee members' own pockets.
"This makes the criminal damage that has occurred even more disappointing."
Mr Holloway reported the incident to Warwickshire police but so far has received no response.
PC Doug Johnson, from South Warwickshire police, said: "Inquiries into this incident are continuing but we do need witnesses to be able to investigate this effectively.
"The police need the help of Bidford residents to be able to catch whoever is responsible for this."
If anyone has any information about this incident, they should contact the police on 01789 762207, voicemail 10885.
