Tenbury United 1 Bridgnorth Town Reserves 2
For the second week in a row, Tenbury United have lost a West Midlands League First Division game in the dying minutes.
After losing the previous week to a goal three minutes from time United went down on Saturday 2-1 at home to Bridgnorth Town Reserves.
The game started well for United and they took the lead on 20 minutes with a spectacular goal from Duncan Palmer who got the ball on the edge of the box and fired a rising left foot shot into the top corner of the net.
Buoyed by this goal United pressed and should have turned round with more goals to the advantage. However, a defensive lapse allowed the visitors back into the game and they scored with a strike from 20 yards.
The second half started well for Tenbury but slowly United came under greater pressure and it was Byron Davies who kept them in the game with a string of fine saves.
But when a draw looked the likely result, Bridgnorth claimed the winner with just a few minutes to go. A clearance from a corner fell to a Bridgnorth player and from six yards his shot was deflected into the net.
Manager, Colin Powell, was disappointed with the result but remains upbeat about United's hopes in the league.
"Ideally, I would like 20 points before Christmas and means two more wins," he said. "After that I am hopeful we will pull away from the relegation zone.
"Currently we have five players who are out of the game through injury but who will be back in the squad in the New Year.
