Evesham Ladies 2, Stourport 0
A CONFIDENT Vale outfit emerged victorious in Saturday's top of the table clash.
They produced some positive play and short sharp passes, while their extra fitness training served them well.
The first goal followed an attacking surge up the right and a great pass into the circle by captain Vanessa Dufty leaving Karen Robinson to dribble round the last defender and fire the ball into the back of the net past a stunned goalkeeper.
The remainder of the first half saw play equally distributed although Evesham were indebted to a series of fine stops from player of the match Charmaine Mitchell.
After a positive half-time pep talk from coach Liz Sterling, Evesham came out strong and determined to maintain their lead. Stourport, too, came out with ll guns blazing but the hosts withstood the pressure with Helen Kennedy, Katie Robinson and Sam Mitchell working well in defence.
That hard work finally paid off when Evesham doubled their advantage courtesy of a fantastic strike from Alice Cook. The match ball was sponsored by GF Goodman Builders.
This was an extremely pleasing result and left the winners at the top of the table ahead of Saturday's clash with Worcester Norton.
