Droitwich men's 1st XI 2 Sikh Union men's 1st XI 5
DROITWICH were denied a point in the Coaching Solutions Midlands Premier Division after a late scoring burst condemned them to defeat on Saturday.
Spa had been holding on for a valuable draw against their relegation battling rivals until a 20-minute spell saw them concede three late goals, which dashed their hopes of a point.
Defeat was a bitter pill for player Barry Williams to take. Droitwich, newly promoted this season, had developed a habit of conceding late goals.
Williams said: "It was a difficult to take losing because we didn't deserve to.
"The scoreline makes it look a lot more one sided that it actually was.
"We were matching them for most of the game and then we let the game slip away from us."
In a game between two sides in the bottom half of the table there were plenty of goals.
Union went 1-0 up but Williams hit the back of the net to equalise.
Once again Union edged ahead, but Pete Jones made sure the game was evenly balanced.
However, Spa conceded three late goals to leave them in the relegation zone.
Williams said: "We're not playing our best hockey, but it's not our worst.
"We just need to win and turn a corner. We need a confidence boost."
Droitwich take on mid-table side Finchfield in Wolverhampton on Saturday, December10.
