THE Hawks played in the Nati-onal Division of the Floorball League at Stratford Leisure Cen-tre where their opening opponents were Milton Keynes.
They made a flying start when Max Levens netted within minutes of the first whistle only for the visitors to quickly level.
However, Josh Needham made it 2-1 and the Hawks remained in the ascendancy by scoring two more goals in the second half, both courtesy of captain and joint coach Jon Bryan.
However, the four-goal haul didn't prove enough as Milton Key-nes hauled themselves back into the match and sealed victory in the closing stages.
Reading University were next up and the Hawks again demonstrated their eagerness for the battle while also displaying true sportsmanship in defeat against one of the division's top teams.
The players will next be in action on Sunday at Gloucester Sports Centre where they will face three matches against Reading Raptors, London Vikings II and Campden Dragons.
The Hawks are a youth team and draw their players from Year 8 pupils to sixth-formers.
Older members will also be made welcome and more information on the team or on floorball in the Cotswolds can be obtained by calling Jon Bryan on 01608 663021.
