ELDERLY residents of a sheltered accommodation complex in Worcester have spoken out against vandals who struck at the weekend.
Damage valued at hundreds of pounds was done to the path fence that runs past Cherwell Close Sheltered Accommodation, Tolladine.
Up to 20 panels were damaged at some time between 7.30pm and 8pm on Saturday.
Isabella McGreavy, who has lived at the complex for more than 10 years, said they used to have problems with vandals a few years ago, but there had been relatively few since then.
Now she describes those responsible for this act as the "new generation".
The 78-year-old said: "It's not fair. We have kept the complex really nice and now we have got vandals kicking the fencing down.
"We are fed up with it. At the moment you'd think that we had been hit by a bomb."
Cherwell Close is one of 13 sheltered accommodation complexes run by Worcester Community Housing, which in October announced plans to remove on-site wardens and replace them with teams of wardens responsible for a number of complexes throughout the city.
These proposals have faced strong opposition from some tenants.
Ian Harkess, from Worcester Community Housing, said: "We think the damage would cost about £800 or £900 to repair by our estimates."
He added that they hope work to repair the fence will start as soon as possible.
A police spokesman said: "We are looking to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything."
