THE joint might of Bell Inn 98 and Oak Allstars came together and produced the anticipated titanic struggle on Sunday in thesoccersite.co.uk Malvern Football League.
After ten minutes Allstars thought how easy it all was. James Dean had found the net after two minutes followed by a Jamie James effort eight minutes later. However, a Dan Herbert penalty before half-time put the Bell back in contention. All Stars regained their two-goal advantage immediately after the break, Jamie James giving them a 3-1 lead. The Bell came back with a vengeance. Ash Jones reduced the arrears and James Argent put the Bell level. The almost 50-year-old defied his years and equalised with a 25-yard chip. Yet the celebration had hardly ended when Tim Rutherford scored the winning goal for Allstars, giving them a just about deserved 4-3 victory.
Celebrations were also in order for Keys Victoria. They gained their first point since the club was formed two seasons ago in a 5-5 draw at home to Fromes Hill Reserves. Keys Victoria were never ahead in the game and came back from 3-5 down to level just before the end. Their scorers included two each for Scott Oseman and Steve Wood and a penalty from Anthony Lampitt. John Gittings starred for Fromes Hill with a hat-trick, Chas Jones and Aaron Richards each scoring once. An encouraging result for Victoria who were inspired by man-of-the-match Ed Draper in mid-field.
Fromes Hill's first XI was not so prolific, going down 4-1 at home to Belmont Keys. Rob Jones scored twice, there was one for Dave Perera and an own goal completed the tally. Chris Taylor scored Fromes Hill's lone reply.
Fielding a weakened side, Ledbury Rangers found Oak Misfits too strong. Two up at half-time, Misfits found their shooting boots in the second period and finished the game with eight goals to Rangers' one. Zeki Koral and Asa Smith both grabbed hat-tricks and were supported with one each from Chris Hodges and Chris Goodsum. Matthew Dance found the net for Rangers.
Oak Academy entertained Keyz 04 and were made to pay for a sloppy first-half performance. Keyz rattled in four goals - two from Matt Lancett and one from Andrew Lancett and Chris Golding. The second period saw a much tighter display from the Academy but Ollie Dunn's goal came too late to offer any hope of a revival.
Cross Keys and Morgan Aero 8 flew the Malvern League flag with distinction last Sunday. Both reached the last 16 of the WFA Minor Cup, winning away from home against opposition from Kidderminster and Bromsgrove.
Morgan, playing against Golden Cross, found themselves a goal down in the first-half but a penalty from Martin Philpotts levelled matters and Marcus Eden popped up to net the winner.
Cross Keys were emphatic in their demolition of Worths Breakwells. Just 2-0 ahead at half-time Keys went on to score six more after the interval to run out 8-0 winners. Scorers were Ed Lyons (three), Ollie Endacott (two), Mike Cole, Anthony Smith and Andrew Fletcher.
