POWICK entertained Fairfield Villa in this quarter final of the WFA Saturday Junior Cup at Victoria Park.
POWICK 0, FAIRFIELD VILLA 2
The teams kicked-off and it was obvious that Fairfield were the higher-graded side in the first 20 minutes.
They went forward at every opportunity and if it had not been for outstanding defence by Hodges, Skilton, Humphries and Lewis for Powick, Fairfield might have been a couple of goals up.
For the remainder of the first half Powick settled down and started to play good football, but without threatening the Fairfield goal. The half time score was 0-0.
In the second-half Powick again played some good football and started to dominate the midfield with good link up play between Prosser, Badham and Abba.
On 65 minutes Powick nearly scored when a Dean Drinkwater cross was headed just wide by Stuart Harvey. In the 71st minute Fairfield had a corner which somehow went straight in for a lead to Fairfield.
Powick never gave up fighting but were caught on the break in the 88th minute where a Fairfield player struck home a fine volley.
Powick can take heart with this performance knowing that Fairfield are three leagues higher and gave them a good game.
The match balls were sponsored by Knowles Sports Worcester, Malvern Sports and Mrs Ann Mayo of Wilton Road, Malvern.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Powick are away to Martley Spurs in the first round of the Baylis Cup, kick-off 1.45pm.
