MALVERN Boys' Brigade members who have clocked up 40 years' service will be collecting gold in London.
Simon Burley, Ben Outram, Ben Cross and Robert Walters, from 1st Malvern Company, are going to St James's Palace on Monday to receive their gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award from Prince Philip himself.
Captain Paul Hern said the Malvern company was a keen participant in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme, with a large number of members working towards bronze, silver or gold.
"The award scheme sets out to promote self-respect and respect for others through challenge and achievement," he said.
"A Duke of Edinburgh certificate will set a person apart and make them stand out for all the right reasons to a future employer."
In order to qualify for their gold certificates, the adventurous four had to participate in a variety of skill-based activities, including a physical recreation element which culminated in a four day, 140 mile cycle expedition through the rugged High Peak area of Derbyshire.
Cpt Hern said: "These young men are a real credit to themselves, their parents and to the Boys' Brigade. I'm sure every one will agree that they have every reason to feel very proud of themselves when they receive their awards from the Duke of Edinburgh himself."
The 1st Malvern Company, for boys aged from seven to 18, meets at Dyson Perrins CE High School, from 7pm to 10pm, every Monday. Anyone interested in joining should call Paul Hern on 01684 562426.
