MALVERN Rugby Club won their first Midlands West Two league game of theseason on Saturday and the pure delight at giving their campaign a kick-start dominated the post match celebrations.
Seen by the players as the beginning of their 'great escape' from the basement places, the win certainly galvanised the team.
As veteran prop Steve Cooper said: "The forwards are there to 'hunt and grunt' and the lads did that all game."
A delighted David Robins, director of rugby, said: "The grit, determination and commitment shown by every player out there was evident to all who watched. The forwards were a cohesive, controlled unit who stuck to a simple, effective game plan and it worked.
"With the half-back partnership of Julien Davies and Adam Dixon starting to gel, a bit more steel in defence and the confidence to take the game to the opposition, the lads rediscovered their self-belief.
"We now look to the remaining matches to start our climb up the table, beginning with Stoke this Saturday."
