ONE of Britain's most distinguished organists is performing a recital at Malvern Priory tomorrow (Saturday).

A CD has also been released, showcasing the capabilities of the recently rebuilt organ.

Tomorrow's concert is by Dr Roy Massey, who was the organist and choirmaster at Hereford Cathedral from 1974 to 2001and has been chief conductor at nine Three Choirs Festivals.

Starting at noon, he will be playing Bach's Prelude and Fugue in G, Mendelssohn's Sonata No 4, plus works by Boyce, Ireland, Jackson, Lang and Bossi.

There will be a video screen to see the organist at work, and a retiring collection will be taken for Priory funds.

The CD, A Malvern Mixture, was recorded by the Priory's organist Andrew Wilson.

It is the first made on the organ since the restoration, which was completed last year, and was produced by Regent Records, a Wolverhamp-ton-based firm that specialises in church organ and choral recordings.

The CD features a wide variety of music, including Bizet's Carmen Suite, and music by Handel, Elgar. The music was chosen to demonstrate the capabilities of the rebuilt instrument.

"Regent Records have managed to capture the sound of the organ superbly, and we are all very pleased with the final result," said Mr Wilson.

The CD is on sale at the Priory, priced £12.
