I MUST start this week with a good luck message to Worcester City. They're on Match Of The Day, so some much-needed cash will be flowing in. I did mention the other week it's very pleasing for all those people who have supported the club through thick and thin, or through thin and thin of late.
The 800 or so regulars who turn out each week, and all the people who work so hard behind the scenes, keep it all going at the Lane. I was at the club's Sportsman's Dinner recently and it was good to see so many people turning out to help the club. These people had booked their tickets before the big cup run started so I hope they have a great day.
I cannot be there myself as I am in hospital on Saturday but I shall be watching from the settee at home, or if the worst comes to the worst, from hospital.
Some of my first football experiences were at the Lane when my dad and I used to catch the bus into the city from Martley and stroll down The Tything. There was a stream of folks from the middle of town in those days - most people didn't have a car for one thing, and it was a case of following the crowd.
I was in London last weekend, went to Twickers for the ruggers as they say in those parts - well not all of them do - but it is still a bit snobby in some parts.
Now I know I am a bit of a country bumpkin, but having wandered into one hostelry, I ordered a glass of dry white wine for a friend and was told it was £4.60. After a short but stunned silence I pointed out to the young lady that I could buy a bottle of the stuff for less than that in my local supermarket. She was not impressed, even when I suggested she could put it back in the bottle.
