A PLEA has gone out to all dog owners to take extra care of their pets this Christmas after a blind puppy was abandoned at a vet's surgery in Pershore.
The 10-week-old Yorkie cross is one of three cases across Wychavon district in the past week.
A Cocker Spaniel dumped in Droitwich had to be put down and a Jack Russell caught in barbed wire at Ombersley needed emergency surgery.
Dog warden Pip Singleton says she fears that this marks an early start to a seasonal problem.
"At Christmas we do see an influx of abandoned pups but I can't believe it has stated so early before.
"These were three heartbreaking cases and I can't stress enough to people that dumping dogs is cruel and heartless.
"I don't know the background to these cases but I would urge people to think twice before buying a pet as a present this Christmas. There are hidden costs like vet bills and pets can be a tie if you want to go on holiday.
"If you have plans to go away this Christmas don't just turn your dogs out into the cold - find a reputable kennels or a friend to look after them."
Members of the public have also been urged to look out for cases of cruelty and anyone who finds a stray dog should call 01386 565015.
