TWO sporting stalwarts from Wyre Forest have been shortlisted for the BBC Midlands Sports' Unsung Hero Award which is decided this weekend.
Cleobury Mortimer Rugby Club secretary/vice chairman Jon Redfearn, who also sells advertising boards, raises funds, edits the programme and runs the line, has been nominated for the gong.
He has played an integral part in Cleobury climbing the rugby pyramid following their formation 12 years ago.
It caps a memorable week for the Midlands Division Four West South side who reached the fifth round of the Powergen Junior Vase for the first time with a 24-7 win over West Bridgford.
Also in the frame for an Unsung Hero award is Derrick Senior, who has been team manager and groundsman of Mostyn Rangers Football Club in Stourport for 15 years.
The club runs 14 teams and has a thriving youth section. Among his many duties are organising events, maintaining and marking out pitches, and general ground maintenance.
Andy Knowles, BBC Midlands Sports Awards manager, said: "It's no great surprise to know that there are many people who devote countless hours to helping others perform their sport."
The overall winner will be announced at a gala ceremony at the National Motorcycle Museum, near Solihull, on Sunday and will be featured on BBC Midlands Today and BBC Local Radio.
