A TEENAGER who shattered a bus windscreen claimed the driver had asked his girlfriend for a kiss.

The First Midland vehicle was in the Bark Hill area of Bewdley when Kyle McLeod-Finch began making obscene gestures.

He waited for the bus to complete a circuit, tried to flag it down and then swung a bag containing compact discs at it, said Tim Sapwell, prosecuting.

Damage totalled £167 and an elderly woman passenger witnessed the offence, Worcester Crown Court heard.

McLeod-Finch, 18, of Baldwin Road, Bewdley, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

He was already serving a 12-month custodial sentence for another breach of the order and was due for release on December 23.

Judge David McEvoy QC, however, gave him a month's detention to run consecutively with the present term.

He told McLeod-Finch he could have caused a serious problem for the driver of a moving bus.

The incident happened on May 10 this year. Police stopped the defendant but he gave a false name and ran off, said Mr Sapwell.

He was charged after police visited him in custody.

McLeod-Finch alleged the driver had asked for the kiss a week earlier and he wanted to question him about it.

He claimed the bus was driven deliberately at him, leading to accidental damage.

Michael Aspinall, defending, said custody was having a beneficial effect on him and he had achieved "gold standard" behaviour.

He was never going to offend again and wanted to train as a decorator.
