CLEOBURY Mortimer's best ever run in the Powergen Junior Vase continued when they produced a stunning performance to march into round five with a 24-7 victory over West Bridgford.
They have been rewarded with a home draw against the University of Derby on Saturday, December 17.
A crowd of 250 flocked to Love Lane for the Cup tie to witness a powerful display by the awesome Cleobury pack that completely destroyed what started out as a determined West Bridgford side.
Some of the action was captured by BBC cameras which were there to film club stalwart Jon Redfern, who has been nominated for this weekend's Midlands Unsung Hero award.
Colin Todd scored one try but stand-in skipper Allan Shields was the star of the show with a hat-trick and two conversions as his half-back pairing with Willie Bache took control.
The first scrum, awarded to the visitors, was shunted back 15-metres, a shock that West Bridgford never recovered from, resorting to illegal tactics and surrendering territory as penalty kicks gave the home side field position.
The next area of dominance came from the lineout as Cleobury's three jumpers Paul Burrows, Colin Todd and Pete Howman gained possession almost every time with little opposition.
A penalty awarded from a scrum resulted in the first score when Shields kicked for the corner and a catch and drive from the pack saw Todd in possession as the forwards drove over the line with Shields adding the extras.
West Bridgford had ideas at half back, pace out wide and a back division that moved the ball well, but they were completely starved of possession and used up valuable resources of energy in defence.
Cleobury really should have scored more tries and only a few unforced errors and dropped passes prevented this, but on a cold, sticky afternoon handling mistakes were forgivable.
Their second try came when a dominant scrum led to a blind side interchange between winger Ben Griffiths and No 8 Paul Hulland with Shields looping round to squeeze in at the corner before kicking the conversion for a 14-0 interval lead.
The second half followed a similar pattern as Cleobury dominated the scrums and the lineouts but were forced to accept parity in the loose exchanges.
An early unconverted try settled the nerves as Shields once again dashed to the line to score out wide after the forwards had sucked in the defence.
With the final pass letting them down, the Mortimer men failed to score the points their superiority deserved, although after West Bridford's hooker was sin-binned, Cleobury added another unconverted try through Shields.
At 24-0 ahead the home team relaxed slightly, allowing the visitors to enjoy some sustained periods of possession and score a consolation try and conversion.
Cleobury return to league action with a tough trip to Worcester Wanderers, while the seconds host their Worcester counterparts on Saturday.
