THE biggest prize in British football has come to Worcester.

Sadly, the Barclays Premiership trophy was only here for a few hours yesterday as part of a whirlwind tour, not in the trophy cabinet at Worcester City's St George's Lane.

Many fans of the beautiful game took the opportunity to have their pictures taken with the silver pot, which has been held aloft by the likes of John Terry, Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane, at Barclays High Street branch.

In addition, the tour raised funds for St Richard's Hospice, with customers making a donation and Barclays agreeing to match the total.

The UK-wide tour of the trophy is designed to bring the most sought after prize closer to the fans. Michael Cartmell, Barclays Assistant Branch manager, said the day had been a huge success.

He said: "We are delighted to have had the Barclays Premiership Trophy at the branch. Everyone from school kids and local teams to office workers on their lunch breaks came down to the branch and had their photo taken with a trophy that has been held aloft by some of the world's greatest players."

CUP CLASH ON AT THE PICTURES

THE biggest game in Worcester City FC's history is hitting the silver screen.

Although City's FA Cup run is not yet the stuff of Hollywood scripts, Worcester's Odeon Cinema, Foregate Street, is getting behind the team by showing the second round clash with Huddersfield on one of its movie screens. Worcester City's cup run will have netted about £200,000 when they play former winners Huddersfield Town at St George's Lane on Sunday, December 4 - and victory would bring in even more.

The match is being televised on BBC1 at 1.05pm and entry is free to anyone who buys a popcorn or nachos combo on the door.
