WYRE Forest medical practices had vaccinated half of all people aged over 65 years against flu by the end of October.
The statistics were revealed in a report to the Wyre Forest PCT board from acting director of public health, Dr Richard Harling, on Tuesday.
They were on course to meet the target of vaccinating 70 per cent of the group and one-third of at-risk people had also been vaccinated, which was higher than the national average.
The Department of Health has released contingency stock that practices can order to replenish their supplies. Three practices will be placing orders to ensure they achieve the 70 per cent uptake. All other practices expect to achieve a similar uptake with existing orders.
Dr Harling said: "We are very pleased with the high take-up of flu vaccine this year because it will mean that more 'at-risk' people than ever will be protected against the infection. Local practices have done a tremendous job to cope with the high demand."
