A BROMSGROVE School pupil has made her point by winning a national fencing title. TO THE POINT: Francesca Pioli won the England under-16s foil section.
Francesca Pioli, aged 15, won the under-16s girls foil section at the English Championships in Gateshead.
Pioli's success means she has been called up to the England squad to compete in the junior home internationals in the New Year.
Pioli's success inspired fellow pupils to success in the West Midlands Age Group at St Thomas Aquinas School in Birmingham.
Frankie Pioli won the under-14s foil event, while Matthew Edgar was victorious in the under-18s epee, followed by Simon Holburn in third place.
Sophie Spurgin came third in the under-16s epee section. The quartet now progresses to represent the region at the British Youth Championships in Stoke in 2006.
Chris and Stephen Edgar, who had already qualified for the event, will join them.
l The school tasted double success in the county's Hockey Championships.
Victories over teams from Prince Henry's School and King's School Worcester made sure that Bromsgrove's under-14s won the outdoor county championships. They now progress to the Midlands finals on. They had started the tournament at The Chase School solidly, drawing 0-0 with King's School.
A 3-0 victory over the hosts and a win over Prince Henry's helped them to lift the county crown.
The under-16s girls' team defeated hosts Evesham to seal the indoors county finals, thanks to goals for Katie Murray (3) and Celine Goodwin.
In the tournament's previous matches Bromsgrove edged Malvern 1-0 and defeated Nunnery Wood 4-0. The team goes onto represent the county in the zonal finals.
l The boys' and girls teams' represent the school when they compete in the National English Cross-Country Cup Final on Saturday, December 3 for the second time in four years.
The teams will also represent Herefordshire and Worcestershire at the finals, which are held at Leeds Grammar School.
