SIR - Can I please offer a clarification of the article that appeared in last Thursday's Worcester News implying that Worcester Licensing Department had failed in some way to process licences in time for the new regime.

The fact of the matter is that we had, indeed, processed all applications in good time and letters informing all licensees that they were legally able to trade had been sent out during November 15-18.

Our only problem had been a delay caused by a temporary glitch in the computer programme that prints the actual licences. However, this was overcome in a few days and the actual licences were posted immediately.

Chairman of Licensing

Park-and-ride is

a wonderful idea

SIR - In spite of criticism in some quarters, park-and-ride has proved a great idea which has relieved some of the traffic congestion in Worcester City centre. It has been well worth the modest amount of council taxpayers' money spent on its introduction. Without park-and-ride we might have had gridlock by now.

We should introduce more European ideas.

Prisoners should

be allowed rights

SIR - Peter Luff said people locked up in prison should forfeit their right to vote. I disagree with him here and I think MPs should look after their constituents. After all, prisoners should have the right to complain if their porridge is too lumpy or unable to get their regular supply of drugs.

JOHN SHEARON,

Worcester.
