TOWNSFOLK will be fascinated by a soon-to-be published book which chronicles the history of Redditch's world famous export - the Royal Enfield motorcycle.
Pershore motorcycle enthusiast Andrew Stait has written a book entitled The Mighty Interceptor, which goes into in-depth detail about the Royal Enfield Interceptor and the factory where it was built.
The Interceptor was first manufactured at Redditch's Royal Enfield site in 1962 but production came to an end in the town in 1966 and moved to the new factory in Bradford-on-Avon.
Royal Enfield production in this country stopped entirely in 1970.
Mr Stait's book, published by Victory Books, includes the histories of both the 736cc and 800cc Interceptors, told by the very men who actually built and test rode these awesome motorcycles.
The Mighty Interceptor also features nearly 160 photographs more than 40 of these have been reproduced from the private albums of former Royal Enfield workers which have never been published before.
Mr Stait said: "I had wanted a Royal Enfield Interceptor since I was about 15 but the majority of them were shipped to America.
"In 2004, I managed to import one from the States and have been riding it since.
"I was lucky enough to meet someone who worked for Royal Enfield and chatted to him for hours.
''I realised then I had a lot of material and needed to write a book about this fascinating subject.
"The stories I was told were amazing. The workers I spoke to have a real bit of motorcycling history to share."
